Who doesn't love the feeling of stepping out of a salon with a perfect blow-dry? While it may seem like a treat you only get when leaving the best salon in Denver, achieving salon-quality results at home is entirely possible with the right techniques and tools!

Here are five simple tips to help you master the art of the perfect blow-dry from the comfort of your own home.

  1. Start with a Good Foundation:

Before you even pick up the blow dryer, ensure your hair is properly cleansed and conditioned. Use a high-quality shampoo and conditioner suitable for your hair type to create a smooth and manageable base for styling. We love Aveda's Smooth Infusion Anti-Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner. Make sure when you are shampooing to focus the shampoo to your scalp and to scrub throughly, especially at your nape. When you condition, only apply it to the length from your ears down, so you don't weighdown your hair. Additionally, apply a heat protectant spray or serum to shield your strands from damage caused by heat styling. Our go-to heat protectant is Nutriplenish Leave In. When applying your products make sure you have towel dried your hair and comb it through to make sure its well distributed.

2. Invest in the Right Tools:

A good blow dryer can make all the difference in achieving salon-quality results! Look for a dryer with multiple heat and speed settings that have separate buttons, as well as a concentrator nozzle attachment for more precise airflow. Okay, so most of us have splurged and use a Dyson, but we also think this budget friendly dryer is an awesome at home option!

If its smooth hair you want, invest in a round brush with natural bristles, as it will help grip your hair to smooth it while adding volume during the drying process. These Ibiza brushes are increidble with their lightweight handles and durable bristles. If you hair tends to be limp and lacks volume, stick with a ceramic round brush. We love these Ergo brushes. They heat up fast to help add volume and shape to your hair and they have a longer round base so you can take bigger sections making your time more efficient!

3. Rough Dry, then Section and Conquer:

If you are fresh out of the shower you will need to rough dry your hair. This involves drying your hair without any attachements on the dryer and making sure to brow dry the air down the hair strand. DON'T aim your dryer all willy-nilly. You need to have intention behind what you are doing otherwise you'll end up a frizzy mess. Dry your hair until you have removed about 80% of the moisture.

Dividing your hair into manageable sections is key to achieving a professional-looking blowout. Start by clipping the top half of your hair, from temple to temple, up and away. Then section from the back of your ear to the other ear and clip that away. Begin drying the bottom section first. Use the concentrator nozzle to direct the airflow downward along the hair shaft, using the round brush to smooth and shape each section as you go.

4. Use the Right Technique:

To create volume and lift at the roots, aim the dryer nozzle upwards while using your fingers or a brush to lift the hair away from the scalp (make sure to still point the dryer in the direction your hair grows). For a sleek and polished look, use the brush to guide the hair downward while directing the airflow from roots to ends. Remember to keep the dryer moving to prevent heat damage and ensure even drying. And don’t forget to add extra love and heat on those ends! Taking the extra time to heat, shape, pause, and allow the ends of your hair to cool while on the brush is what takes at at-home blowout to salon-worthy!

5. Finish with a Cool Shot

Once your hair is fully dry and styled, switch your blow dryer to the cool setting and give your hair a final blast of cool air. This helps to set the style and seal the hair cuticle, resulting in a smoother and longer-lasting blowout. For added shine and hold, mist your hair with a light-hold hairspray or shine spray to finish. We know you will love Aveda’s Air Control or Glossy Nectar serum from OWay.

With these five simple tips, you can achieve salon-quality blowout right in the comfort of your own home. By starting with a good foundation, investing in the right tools, mastering proper techniques, and finishing with a cool shot, you'll be well on your way to achieving the perfect blowout every time.

So, say goodbye to having bouncy, voluminous, shiny hair only when you leave the salon, and hello to beautiful hair days at home!
